Hello there:
I would appreciate if someone there can give me some insight on witO
n the problem I will describe or if someone can put me in contact with
experts in this area.
Problem:
========
In an oil well that produces oil and water (very saline =200000mg/lt)
the presence of Iron Sulfide stimulates the formation of an emulsion.
As the water-to-oil production ratio increases the problem gets worse.
This emulsion makes difficult to transport the oil through the pipelines.
What I am facing here is the need to find a way to understand emulsion
created due to iron sulfide and (2) to find a way to break this emulsion
before transporting the oil through the pipelines, or (3) find an alterna-
tive to transport the oil in the form of an oil-water emulsion.
I need to get in contact with people who have done research on this type of
emulsion or get references that deal with them.
Thank you for your time.
My name is Mauricio Villegas, I am studying at Texas A&M University and

Mauricio,
Have you checked the literature or patents in the Texas A&M library?
A brief scan of _Emulsions: Theory and Practice_ by Paul Becher
(Rienhold Publishing Corp) presents some information on the
demulsification of oil field emulsions.
Becher briefly descibes the principle methods and provides an
overview of the literature and patents. My copy of this book is
dated ’1966′ so I’m sure there must be some new techniques, but oil
is still oil and water is still water.
I spend most of my time making improving the stability of O/W
emulsions (aka cosmetic creams and lotions) not demulsification. If
you need some citations or patent numbers, please let me know.
