Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could help me by sending me some references on
geometric models for polymers in solution. Thanks a lot.

I am posting this request for a colleague. She has been using TNCB
(trinitrochlorobenzene) as a hapten in her system, but is no longer
able to purchase from her previous supplier. (It is an explosive
substance). Does anyone out there use TNCB, or know where it can be
purchased for research purposes?
Please e-mail directly as I do not always read these groups.
Thank you!

Hi! I did a metalation (lithium -hydrogen exchange) reaction on
meta-methyl anisole which I quenched with D2O. I know from previous
studies that metalation should occur in one of three sites: both positions
ortho to the methoxy group and the ring methyl group. I am interested
in finding out the %deuterium incorperation at each of the three
sites. would deuterium NMR be the best way to find this out?

Dangers of Aqua Regia!
If aqua regia is to be stored for any lenght of time, the 1-part HNO3 and
3-parts HCl should include 1-part water to avoid the evolution of
objectionable quantities of chlorine and other gases.
Does anyone know what these other gases are?
I just had a fountain of aqua regia in my lab after opening a closed bottle
of aqua regia that had been prepared without this extra 1-part of water.

The best (only) way to fix PE is to use a hot melt adhesive. The best one
would be the "hot glue gun" type.
If this is not practical because of the type of "mend" required then the
second best is a "pressure sensitive type. These will bond but not well and
not very heat resistant.

I am trying to represent a fairly simple system, but haven’t found software
suitable for the task. Can anyone help?
SITUATION: I need to overlay the following in a single picture.
1. A space fixed Cartesian coordinate system (showing XYZ axes) oriented
along the sides of a cube.
2. A molecular, body fixed Cartesian coordinate system (showing xyz axes)
oriented so that z is normal to a cube face and xy follow the lines of
face diagonals. Neglecting the symmetry of the cube, I need to be able to
take the xyz axes through all 24 orientations relative to the space fixed
XYZ system.
PROBLEM: What software is available to do the above?
For such a small problem, it would be nice if all maniuplations could be
done interactively (ie. not having to calculate coordinates and link up
atoms.
My second problem requires the calculation of the Euler angles between the
axes xyz and XYZ. Once the coordinate systems are input, is there any software
which can do this automatically.
That’s my problem. Please email any replies and I’ll summarise any useful
replies. Any assistance is appreciated.
Thank you,

If you are a woman and subscribe to sci.chem, then will you please send
me e-mail stating that you exist. I am wondering why there are so few
women who post on this network. For that matter, are there any women that
read the postings at all? By the way, I’m working on a report on the
woman’s voice on e-mail for a class on women in science (I need responses
by Wednesday April 13). Thanks.
Where can I down load a text file containing the periodic table of the
elements. The Webb version is nice, but I need to print the whole thing out.
Thanks,

EMILY
Electronic Membrane-Information Library
—————————————————————————–
As part of a Water Research Commission project we recently undertook, we
developed a computer model that predicts the behaviour of some membrane
processes. We now wish to publicise this model and gather data to refine it.
We are therefore establishing an anonymous ftp site, EMILY, on which we will
publicise the program and store data.
However, we would like EMILY to become an electronic focal point for the
wider membrane community. We would like to use EMILY to facilitate
interaction between the disparate groups using and researching membranes.
If you are a membrane user, researcher or consultant, please contact me with
ideas about what you would like to see in EMILY. Better still, if you have
submissions, I would be happy to hear about them.
We anticipate that EMILY will be up and walking by the end of April. I will
advertise the address at that time.
