ELEMENT 9, FLUORINE

What I especially want to emphasize are any superlatives of the
elements, i.e. , the chemical properties and the nuclear properties,
each element has which are unique, aside from the fact of the
uniqueness of atomic number. Please point out any superlatives which I
have overlooked. There are mistakes in these descriptions please notify
me of the mistakes.

Element 9, fluorine, F, is a pale yellow corrosive gas.  Fluorine is
the most reactive of all elements, the most electronegative element and
only three inert gases: helium,neon, and argon are capable of resisting
it. A stream of fluorine gas will burn finely divided metals, glass and
even water with a bright flame.  F displaces other elements from their
compounds, Cl from NaCl and O from silica or glass. Fluorine has an
essential biological role.

Element 11, sodium, Na, is a very soft, silvery-white metal,extremely
active chemically. Conducts heat and electricity easily and exhibits
the photoelectric effect (emission of electrons when exposed to light).
Sodium is biologically essential and sodium’s most commonplace compound
is sodium chloride,table salt or seasalt. The D lines of sodium are the
most prominent in the solar spectrum. Sodium hydroxide is the most
important industrial alkali in the manufacture of chemicals.

Element 12, magnesium, Mg, is a silvery-white, lusterous, relatively
soft metal, with a very low density.  Magnesium has low density, 2/3
that of aluminum. Major use is that of the lightest-weight structural
metal, and magnesium alloys for lightweight. Biologically essential for
both animal and plant life.  Magnesium is required as a catalyst for
enzyme reactions in carbohydrate metabolism. Magnesium is a constituent
of chlorophyll in plants, playing the role similar to that of iron in
hemoglobin.

Element 13, aluminum, AL, is a silvery-white metal which is hard and
strong when alloyed, and protected by oxide film from reacting with air
and water. Relative to Earth abundance, aluminum is the most abundant
metal element. There is widespread use of aluminum, from aluminum foil
to airplane wings. Aluminum is superconductive below 1.175 K.  Aluminum
has no known biological role but it accumulates in the body and perhaps
in brain cells.

Element 14, silicon, Si, is either black amorphous silicon or ultrapure
blue-gray metallic.  Silicon makes-up about 26% of the Earth’s surface
by weight and is the second most abundant element, exceeded only by
oxygen 49%, and together oxygen and silicon by weight compose 3/4 of
the Earth’s crust. Sand is largely silicon dioxide, which makes glass
and cement. Microelectronic devices are based on silicon. Silicon is
biologically essential.

ELEMENT 15, PHOSPHORUS

Element 15, phosphorus, P, has two forms: a) white phosphorus is soft
and flammable, and glows in the dark b) red phosphorus is powdery and
nonflammable.  Atoms of phosphorus are some of the atoms which forms
the basis of all life for it is part of the DNA molecule.  The
important phosphate cycle occurs. Phosphate has world-wide demand as a
plant fertilizer. Phosphates are ingredients for detergents.

Element 16, sulfur, S, is a pale yellow, odorless, brittle solid, a
nonmetal.  The chemistry of S is more complex than that of any other
element because S exists in the largest number of structural molecular
forms, other elements like Si,P,As exist as polymers and O,N,Cl exist
as diatomic molecules. Sulfur is extensively used in industry in the
form of sulfuric acid and is common in matches,insecticides, and rubber
tires. Sulfur is a biological essential.

Lubricated ceramics

Lubricated ceramics
I need some information about some sort of a ceramic which is
not very brittle.  Almost like Teflon loaded or lubricated
properties. I need to use it to write on glass, and brittle
ones scrach the glass.  I am not a materials engineer, any
help will be much appreciated.
