Post-Doctoral position in theory

Post-Doctoral Position in Theoretical Organic Chemistry

A joint position with Prof. Ken Wiberg at Yale University and
Dr. Michael Frisch at Lorentzian, Inc. is currently available.  The
research area includes development of new methods for incorporating
solvent effects in ab initio electronic structure calculations and
the application of these methods to problems of structure, spectroscopy,
and reaction mechanisms in organic chemistry.

Candidates should be knowledgable in either ab initio methods,
numerical solution of PDEs, or current solvation models, and have
programming experience.

Subject: GOLD AND SILVER EXTRACTION BY THIOUREA LEACHING

Hi all…
i am a last year student in metallurgical engineering.
and i have project on thiourea leaching for gold and silver extraction.
but as the ones who are interested in this subject know that
this project is not commonly used yet..
previous technique was the leaching by sodium cyanide which is
poisonous for human health and create environmental troubles..
moreover thiourea is faster in leaching process than sodium cyanide.
hence, i need any reference about this subject for my project..
it may be on computer on ordinary ways..

i thank you for your interest…

Do storm glasses exist?

While reading "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea" I came across the
following descriptions of a device for predicting storms:

From a description of the instrumentation of the Nautilus:
"the storm-glass, the contents of which, by decomposing, announce the
   approach of tempests"

From a description of the storm after the fight with the squids:
"The mixture of the storm glass was decomposed under the influence
of the electricity that pervaded the atmosphere."

Sounds like a useful device.  All the other instruments mentioned in
the book exist (thermometer, barometer, hygrometer, sextant,
chronometer, manometer).  Anyone know if such a thing as a storm
glass really exists, how it works, and how to build or buy one?
Please reply via email.  I’ll summarize if there is interest.

Bug in the ESP code of Mopac fixed

There is a bug in the subroutine elesp of Mopac 5.0 ESP and the ESP
code in Mopac 6.0.  In Mopac 6.0 all of the ESP code is in the esp.rof
file which gets renamed and compiled if the ESP code is desired.  The
bug is that the z cartesian coordinates being written to unit 21 were
in BOHR whereas the x and y coordinate were in agnstroms which is
what the should be.  The bug is fixed in the download versions on
ouchem.chem.oakland.edu(141.210.108.5).  If you have Mopac 5.0 ESP
download just the file elesp.f and if you have Mopac 6 download esp.rof from
either the vax or unix directories.

Re: lead & catalytic converters

In article <58…@apple.Apple.COM>, b…@Apple.COM (bill coderre) writes…
>Leaded fuel also has practically no lead in it these days.

>That level isn’t enough for some cars, so the best solution is to get
>unleaded premium and add synthetic-lead-in-a-bottle (which cannot
>legally contain any lead at all).

Check out the main ingredient of a product that’s called RealLead (or something
similar)  Comes in a quart bottle…

Tap tap tap… Tapping on can top?

As long as we’re on soda dynamics here… Does tapping on the top of a
12-ounce can of soda actually prevent it from fizzing over?

Need Thermochemical Data. Is JANAF Data Available Over the Net?

I’m looking for the most up-to-date thermochemical data for the
chlorides and hydrides (all known solid, liquid and gaseous species)
for the following metals:

Al, Be, Ce, Cr, Fe, Ga, Ni, Si, Ta, V, W

I currently have the printed JANAF Thermochemical Tables, 3rd Edition,
from 1985, and the Bureau of Mines Bulletins #672 and #674, so you need
not recommend these.  Anyway, they are not complete with respect to
the species I need.

Please e-mail me if you have any leads or recommendations.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I have heard that the JANAF Tables are continually being revised and
are now available only in digital form.  Does anybody have access to
a more recent (or the most recent) version of the JANAF Tables in
digital format, and, if so, could I copy selected tables over the
Internet via ftp or e-mail?

Thank you for your help.
